"Super" looks super amazing

Super looks like a lot like Kick-Ass, but with actors I like. That's not to say that I didn't like the performances in Kick-Ass, because I really did. Nick Cage played a obsessive comic-book-loving crazy person, which in fact he is. Super on the other hand has Rainn Wilson, Elen Page, and an underrated Steven Weber. Check out the trailer below, and I'm sure that you'll agree.

F*ck yeah, It's a Captain America movie!

I was excited to see the first commercial for the new Captain America movie during the Super Bowl last Sunday. I was even more excited to see the Captain America trailer mash-up with Team America: World Police's America, F*ck Yeah! Check it out.

McBain: The MOVIE!

McBain is America's favorite action hero (from an animated television show) and thanks to the geniuses at CollegeHumor.com, it appears the clips depicting McBain in earlier seasons of the Simpsons form a coherent single film. Check out the movie below. It's pretty excellent. My only wish is that I could see McBain: Let's Get Silly, which features McBain against a brick wall for 90 minutes (the movie cost $80 million dollars to film).

Oscars Stuff on the Internet Rundown!

While I was away this week (by away I mean actually doing work at work), Oscar nominations came out. There weren't really any surprises this year, besides Winter's Bone being nominated for Best Picture. Seriously, that movie should have been called "Winter's Bore" (and with that zinger I'm back!).

Since I love movies and the internet, here are a bunch of things that I've come across dealing with the Oscars:

Supercuts: more than crappy, cheap haircuts

According to the Washington Post (the end-all, be-all of what's hip and now) vial videos are so 2010 (that means they're out). Supercuts reign supreme in 2011. Here's some supercuts for you. The 100 Greatest Movie Insults of All Time and The Other 100 Greatest Movie Insults of All Time. All hail supercuts! Death to cost cutters!

Movie Review time: Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith

Wait, didn't Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith come out 7 years ago (nope, 5 years ago)? Why would anyone be reviewing a movie that came out 5 years ago? Well, because they're (Mr. Plinkett) very thorough in their reviews of movies (the review is about 1.5 hours), and because this is the third Star Wars review that they've done (check out Episodes I and II). Why should you care about watching this review? ROGER FUCKING EBERT! Even he posted it to his blog (I think that now means that we're blog buddies). So carve out 90 minutes from your day and watch the review.

Cedar Rapids never looked so fun

The first trailer for the Ed Helms lead movie Cedar Rapids was just released (or at least I first saw it today. Same thing, right?). It really looks great, and it has a funny cast, including Senator Clay Davis who refernces The Wire! No, if it was just Ed Helms and Clay Davis (Isiah Whitlock, Jr.), I'd maybe see it. But it also has Maeby
from Arrested Development in it (no word if she says "Marry me" in the movie)!

I dare you to watch the trailer and not want to see the movie. I double dog dare you!

This holiday season, get some Grit

Last day of work before Christmas break! Wooohoo! No I can do nothing and not be at work. One way that I plan on passing my time is by seeing movies (I think that was a horrible sentance, but I'm too busy dreaming about leaving to go back and correct it.). The movie that I'm most looking foreword to seeing the most is, obviously, True Grit. I just read Slate's review, and I am now even more excited. So, go see that movie so that when I post my review, I don't spoil anything for you. DO IT!

Here's the trailer, again:

Understanding movies is difficult

Some movies can be difficult to understand (why did they make a Yogi Bear movie?). Luckily, some directors make little maps to help you understand what's really going on. For example, Christopher Nolan created a detailed map to help guide him through the making of Inception. Inception wasn't even the most hard to follow movie of 2010. That honor goes to SATC 2 (Sex and the City Part 2: Electric Boogaloo for those of you not in the know).

The movie brought up so many questions, such as: Why was that movie ever made? Can I have my money back? Is that what hell is like? When they finally build a working time machine, can I use it to stop that movie from ever being made, or will that then stop the impetus that makes time travel possible (time travel is weird)?

Well, we may never know the answers to those questions (except the hell one; that is what hell is like), there is a detailed map that helps explain the plot. Here it is:

True Grit? More like Truly Awesome Looking (sorry about that. It's the best title I could come up with).

Awhile back I was at Powell's Books in Portland, (which is one of the best places on earth. You can decide if I'm talking about Powell's or Portland) and I saw the novel True Grit with a sign under it saying that it was going to be made into a movie by the Cohen Brothers. I bought the book, not wanting to see another of their movies based on a book without knowing the source material (I read No Country for Old Men well after seeing the movie and would have loved to have read the book first).

How about a big monster came and took him to Daddy Heaven?

As you already know, Leslie Nielsen died yesterday. Nielsen stared in some of the funniest movies of all time (No, I'm not talking about Dracula: Dead and Loving It. Yes, The Naked Gun is one of the funniest movies of all time. Deal with it!). A lot of articles have been posted about Nielsen in the past day, so I thought I'd list some of the ones I liked best. Enjoy reading and laughing.

New Buffy Yay! Wait...No Whedon? NO!

Hollywood's effort to reboot every series, franchise, movie, TV show, and/or board game ever made has taken another victim. Buffy the Vampire Slayer (vampires are so 2009), is being rebooted (yes, the series was a take off ,or reboot, of the 1992 movie) without the help of Joss Whedon. Blasphemy!

Harry Potter Infrared Battling Wands? Yes, please.

This weekend I saw Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, which I'd been excited to see. I'm happy to say that it did not disappoint. It was exactly what I had expected, dark, sad, bleak, and sometimes funny. What a perfect Friday night movie, right? Now that I've seen Part 1, I cannot wait for Part 2 to come out next year.

It's a Contest!

The other night at trivia, the movie Deep Impact was an answer to a question. This prompted me to make the hilarious joke, "Don't google that at work." I'll wait a minute for you to stop laughing. Done? Good. I started thinking of more movie titles you probably shouldn't google at work, and this is what I've come up with so far:

Expecto patronum, more like expecto alotum

Yesterday I read the Washington Post's review of the latest Harry Potter movie, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part I, (which I am very excited about) and literally got goosebumps. I'm so excited for the movie, yet, as the article states, a little sad about it too. Next summer will be the last Harry Potter movie, and then it'll be all over (except for the theme park, and the video games, and the merchandise, and possibly more Harry Potter books, etc.).
